In February 2016, six adventures trekked into the Monkman Cascades, a series of ten waterfalls in Monkman Provincial Park, with the hopes of ice climbing each of the ten cascades.
Unseasonably warm temperatures made the trek “interesting”. Open water on Monkman Creek was an obstacle.
The team was able to climb Cascade #8, and a seep across from Lower Moore Falls. After scouting with a UAV, the decision was made to not proceed any further than Lower Moore Falls, due to unfavourable ice conditions.
This video features the hike in on the Murray River and Monkman Creek, the camp above Cascade #10, the ice climb up Cascade #8, and the climb of the “Tonsure”.
